How to Treat and Prevent Mould

Mould can be more than just an eyesore -it’s a health hazard. Swipe through to learn how to tackle mould and keep it from coming back!

What is Mould and Why is it a Problem?

Mould is a type of fungus that releases toxic spores into the air, causing sneezing, runny noses, skin rashes, and in severe cases, allergic reactions or asthma attacks. It can also erode surfaces, damaging your property and belongings.

How Does Mould Grow?

Mould thrives in cool, damp conditions with little light and poor ventilation, like bathrooms, kitchens, and laundries. It’s often caused by excess moisture, painting over bare wood, or painting over existing mould.

🔍 How to Identify Mould

Even if you can’t see mould spores, here are some warning signs:

  • Musty smell

  • Water stains or discoloured walls

  • Bubbling, cracking, or peeling paint

  • Recent water damage or high humidity

  • Unusual, persistent health symptoms

How to Treat Mould

If you spot mould, act fast! Here’s an effective method:

  1. Increase ventilation by opening doors and windows.

  2. Wear gloves, a mask, and eye protection.

  3. Mix 1 part bleach with 3 parts water or use Selleys Rapid Mould Killer.

  4. Spray the mixture, scrub with a stiff brush.

  5. Rinse with clean water and Selleys Original Sugar Soap, then let it air dry.
